Despair Reduction

Characters with Despair Reduction can reduce the duration or remove the despair debuff.

When a captain or friend captain is placed in Despair, the captain ability will be removed from the team. If the captain increased the attack of your units by 2.5x, or increased your team's health by 2x, these abilities will be removed. Effectively, your team will perform significantly less damage and lose a large portion of health through the duration of the effect. Once the effect expires, you will not regain any lost health. A captain's special is NOT impacted by the despair debuff.

It is worth noting that when your team has anti-despair sockets, you will not suffer from the effects of despair until after the anti-despair sockets have been applied. So if you have a one turn despair placed on your Diamond Jozu who doubles your teams health, and you have a level 1 anti-despair socket, you will NOT lose any of your health. This is one advantage of the sockets over a special move which would have to be applied after you've lost your health already.

Note, the despair effect can be a very effective weapon in the hands of a double Blackbeard team where his special allows you to reflect damage received. Loosing all your health is considered damage to your team and you can use Blackbeard to 10x that damage back at all enemies.
